A year ago I left my job of 21 years. I knew I was going to start my own medical practice, but the details were a little sketchy. I had faith that God would help me. Now as I look back, it’s been an amazing journey, and I’m so happy with how things have progressed.
Sure, there were bumps in the road, with delays in getting our LLCs and buying the office building, then doing some renovations. Once we bought the building I could finally pursue getting “credentialed” for being able to bill medical insurance. But I was told it would be 3 to 6 months until I could fully bill insurance, despite having done that for 30 years. What? Now what should I do? Well, that was my golden opportunity, as I ended up looking into DPC (Direct Primary Care), deciding to pursue it. Patients pay a monthly fee in exchange for unlimited office visits and communication. I don’t bill insurance, so I am able to take care of patients the way I want to.
I finally feel like the doctor I have wanted to be, spending time working with patients to help maximize their health. Together with my patients I’m learning SO many new things, finding the underlying cause of medical issues rather than just prescribing more pills. It’s been a great adventure so far, with much more to come!
Working for my patients, instead of for insurance companies!
